THE graduation theme for Yanchep Rise Primary School this year is a perfect way to describe the students’ time at the school and the journey they will continue, says principal Helen Demiris.

On Tuesday, when 44 students graduated, the community was introduced to the 2026 head girl Matilda Mann and head boy Harvey Wilton, who were the emcees for the event.

Ms Demiris said she looked forward to working with them both next year as leaders of the student executive team.

“I would also like to thank Tyler Bolton for your acknowledgement of country and recognising the Wadjuk Noongar people and country,’’ she said.

“This year, our graduation theme is road tripping, and it’s a perfect way to describe your time here at Yanchep Rise and the journey you’re about to continue.

“I feel privileged to be part of your journey and celebrating your achievements Year 6, as you prepare to move on to high school.

“Today marks an important milestone – a moment to pause, look back at how far you’ve come, and get ready for the next destination on your journey.

“As I look around, I see a group of young people who have grown not just in height and knowledge, but in confidence, courage and kindness.

“Over the past year, you’ve faced challenges, learned new things and discovered strengths you didn’t even know you had.

“Now, as you leave primary school, you’re ready to step into the next stop on your road trip – secondary school.

“One thing that’s been causing a lot of chatter lately – and not everyone is thrilled about – is the social media ban.

“I know many of you are frustrated by it and that’s understandable.”

She said it was also a reminder that some of the best moments on a road trip don’t happen on a screen.

“They happen when you’re riding bikes, playing, kicking a footy, or just sitting together laughing and talking with friends.

“As you move on to secondary school, think of it like getting in the car for a brand-new road trip.

“The road ahead might have twists and turns, traffic lights and maybe even a few detours – but every part of the journey matters.

“Sometimes the road will be smooth and fast, sometimes it will be bumpy and sometimes you might even get a flat tyre – but that’s okay.

“Every challenge is an opportunity to learn, grow, and discover something new about yourself.

“On this road trip, you’ll need a reliable GPS – something to guide you when you’re unsure which way to go.

“At Yanchep Rise, your GPS has been our school values: respect, integrity, safety, excellence and resilience.

“These values will help you make good choices, treat others well and keep moving forward when the journey feels tough.

“Along the way, you’ll create memories that last, build friendships – some of which may stay with you for life – and collect experiences that shape who you are becoming.

“Remember, a great road trip isn’t about getting to the destination as fast as possible.

“It’s about enjoying the journey, celebrating the milestones and appreciating the people who travel alongside you.

“So, to the Year 6 class of 2025: be proud of everything you’ve achieved.

“You’ve faced a unique year and shown courage, adaptability, and resilience – and now the road trip continues.

“The next stop is secondary school, and I can’t wait to see all the amazing things you will discover, achieve and become along the way.”
