Butler man due back in court after fire

A MAN charged after a fire in a Butler home is due back in the Joondalup Magistrates Court on Thursday, May 7.

The 40-year-old man first appeared in the court on Wednesday, April 8 and then again on Thursday, April 9 where he was remanded in custody and the case adjourned.

Arson squad investigators charged the Butler man with criminal damage by fire after WA Police and Department of Fire and Emergency Services personnel were called to a home on Pendleton Cres about 10.25pm on Tuesday, April 7.

WA Police said the fire caused extensive damage to the garage area and smoke damage to the home with damage estimated at $100,000.

Police said the man had been taken to Joondalup Health Campus with non-life-threatening injuries but luckily other occupants of the home were uninjured.

Neighbouring homes had been evacuated while firefighters extinguished the fire.
