GRANVILLE Park will receive a complete makeover, which will benefit the Gingin community and enhance tourism in the town.
The makeover is possible due to a $234,000 grant from the federal government’s community development grants program – the funding is not an election commitment even though it was announced on April 26.
The funding will see the installation of a new playground, upgraded barbecue facilities, new toilet facilities and shaded seating.
Incumbent Pearce MHR Christian Porter, who has been campaigning for the upgrades, said he was extremely proud to deliver this much-wanted project for the people of Gingin.
“This is something the Gingin community has been calling out for,” Mr Porter said.
“The current playground at Granville Park is outdated and in serious need of an upgrade.
“Today I am incredibly proud to announce this funding, and the positive impacts of community projects like this cannot be understated.
“This investment will they get kids off the couch, keep them active and healthy and help promote community engagement and cohesion.
“And these upgrades will not only benefit families in Gingin, it will encourage tourism.”
Shire of Gingin chief executive officer Aaron Cook welcomed the investment saying the positive impacts of the upgrades would be widespread.
“This announcement will provide Gingin with the much needed playground infrastructure upgrade for the Granville Park area and will encourage increased tourist and economic activity in Gingin,” he said.
