THE Shire of Gingin annual meeting of electors will be held at 5pm today at the administration centre in Brockman St.
The purpose of the annual meeting of electors is to discuss the Shire of Gingin 2019-20 annual report and any other general business.
Yanchep News Online asked the shire if the annual meetings of electors was going to be held at Granville civic centre so more members of the public could attend.
But the shire said in recent years only two to five members of the public had attended the annual meeting of electors.
“Last year was an exception with over 20 members of the public,’’ the shire said.
“Council reviewed the location for the annual electors meeting several months ago and chose to continue to facilitate it from the chambers.
“As such, this was advertised to the community by staff some three weeks ago as per the requirements of the Local Government Act 1995.”
Yesterday the shire said the 2sqm rule still remained as mandated by the state government but also said it had just received new advice that Covid-19 restrictions were set to ease in this area.
“Staff are currently assessing the capacity of the chambers to increase the seating numbers based on this new easement of restrictions.
“The public is still being asked to register however, in case this cannot be put in place in time.
“The public will not be stopped from attending – the registration simply allows staff to have a good idea of numbers and ensure adequate space is available.
“If the amount of space needed is more than what is available in the council chambers then the committee room next door can be opened up to create extra room whilst still maintaining the appropriate social distancing measures.’’
By 10am yesterday no one had registered to attend the annual meeting of electors.
The annual meeting of electors will follow the shire’s March ordinary meeting, which starts at 3pm.
