How to support the Brekky for Better campaign

Uniting WA, along with its partners, is inviting the community to support its Brekky for Better campaign.

IN Yanchep and surrounding suburbs people taking part in the Brekky for Better campaign can leave their donations at Butler MLA Lorna Clarke’s office, St Stephen’s School in Carramar or St Stephen’s School in Duncraig.

Brekky for Better is a Uniting WA community campaign aiming to stock essential breakfast items for people accessing support through the Tranby Engagement Hub, Perth’s only 365-days-a-year homelessness crisis centre.

Running from August 3-28, Brekky for Better encourages community members to donate long-life milk, coffee, cereal and other non-perishable breakfast essentials at participating donation points across Perth.

Uniting WA co-chief executive officer Jen Park said while the campaign focused on breakfast foods, the impact extended well beyond a morning meal.

“At Uniting WA Tranby Engagement Hub, a shared breakfast creates opportunities for conversation, connection and trust, often becoming the first step towards practical support, housing referrals and other services helping people move forward,” Ms Park said.

Uniting WA said the need for homelessness support had never been greater.

Rising housing affordability pressures, family and domestic violence and financial hardship are driving increased demand for services across Western Australia.

In 2024-25, 25,900 West Australians accessed homelessness assistance, representing a 3.6 per cent increase on the previous year (AIHW Specialist Homelessness Services Report).

Open 365 days a year, the Hub is a vital lifeline for people experiencing homelessness across Perth.

In 2025 alone, people turned to the Hub nearly 95,000 times for support.

During that time, the team provided more than 235,000 instances of assistance including meals, showers and practical support.

In the same period, the Uniting WA team completed more than 3500 accommodation and housing referrals.
