LEDGE Point residents are being asked to leave and head to an evacuation centre at Lancelin Community Sports Centre due to an emergency bushfire warning.

The bushfire, which is burning towards Ledge Point townsite, is moving in a west-northwesterly direction and is not contained or controlled.

An alert issued by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) at 7.34am said people in the emergency warning area should leave in an easterly direction along Ledge Point Rd towards Indian Ocean Dr and travel north to Lancelin.

Ledge Point Rd between Indian Ocean Dr and Old Ledge Point Rd is however closed to returning traffic.

A bushfire advice – stay informed – is in place for people south of Bennies Rd, bounded by Indian Ocean Dr to the east, Ledge Point Sands Access to the south and the coast to the west in northern parts of Breton Bay and southern parts of Ledge Point.
