COLD case homicide squad detectives investigating the disappearance and suspected murder of 18-year-old Sarah Spiers are appealing for public assistance to locate a vehicle of interest.
Miss Spiers disappeared after a night out with friends in Claremont on Friday, January 26, 1996.
Last year more than 19 years after Ciara Glennon’s body was found by a man walking in bushland off Pipidinny Rd in Eglinton in April 1997 about a month after she went missing from Claremont police said the investigation into Miss Spiers’ disappearance was ongoing.
This week detective superintendent Rod Wilde from the special crime division said despite the significant passage of time it was still possible the vehicle they wanted to locate could help their investigation.
“It is a new line of inquiry we’d like to finalise,” he said.
“We are aware this car was deregistered in 2008, but from that time onwards it is unclear what happened to it.
“It may have been wrecked or abandoned, or could still be in use on a rural property.”
The vehicle of interest is a white 1992 Toyota Camry station wagon similar to the one pictured above.
“Even if the vehicle is in pieces we would like the opportunity to examine it.’’
In December 2016 detectives charged a Kewdale man with the murder of Ms Glennon and the murder of Jane Rimmer as well as attacks on two other women, a 17-year-old in Claremont in 1995 and an 18-year-old in Huntingdale in 1988.
Anyone who has any information about the vehicle is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or leave a report at www.crimestopperswa.com.au
Reports to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous.
