Nilgen residents advised to leave now due to bushfire

A BUSHFIRE emergency warning is in place for people in an area bounded by Nilgen Rd to the coast and to the north and south of Ocean Farm Dr in Nilgen in the Shire of Gingin.

The bushfire, which is not contained or controlled, is moving in a westerly direction.

Indian Ocean Dr between Ocean Pl and Meadows Rd is closed.

At 11.36am an alert issued by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) said if the way was clear, people should leave now for a safer place.

DFES is managing the bushfire, which was reported at 1.52am on March 30.

People leaving the area should leave in a southerly direction towards the Lancelin townsite.

The Department of Communities has set up an evacuation centre at Lancelin Community Sports Centre (129 Lancelin Rd).

A bushfire watch and act is in place for people in an area west of Indian Ocean Dr, bounded by Sappers Rd to the north and Lancelin Rd to the south, including Lancelin Golf Club in parts of Lancelin and Nilgen.

There is a possible threat to lives and homes as a fire is burning in the area and conditions are changing.

The Department of Communities has set up an evacuation centre at Lancelin Community Sports Centre (129 Lancelin Rd).
