A SURVEY to guide the design of the proposed Alkimos aquatic and recreation centre is available on the City of Wanneroo website for residents to complete until Sunday, December 20.
The multiple-choice survey, which opened on November 26, includes general demographic questions, what pool-based sports or activities respondents take part in, what community or privately operated aquatic centre they have attended in the past 12 months and their reason for not using an aquatic centre in the past 12 months if that is the case.
The Alkimos aquatic and recreation centre survey says the facility will be a multi-purpose facility that will cater for fitness, health and wellbeing and also asks residents their expectations for what the facility will provide.
On July 29 the city posted on its website that community consultation on the proposed design elements of the new facility at Alkimos Central would take place in accordance with the city’s community engagement policy and that it was anticipated this would happen later in 2020.
This followed councillors endorsing on July 28 an officer’s recommendation to build a north coast aquatic and recreation centre citing a business case by Pracsys, which recommended Alkimos Central as the best option for a North Coast facility in the short to medium term.
At that meeting a five-point motion – moved by Mayor Tracey Roberts and seconded by North Coast ward councillor Nat Sangalli – said community consultation would follow the council’s consideration of indoor and outdoor options for the aquatic component of a North Coast aquatic and recreation centre at Alkimos Central.
The motion included a call for the city’s long term financial plan to include funding for an aquatic and recreational facility in Yanchep starting 2037.
