TWO Rocks poet Shey Marque is running a workshop on Saturday as well as taking part in other events at the Perth Poetry Festival this week.
In her workshop Writing Under the Influence writers will be able to explore the self from a connection made with ancestors or a stranger they have encountered but never met.
Discussion and exercises will be based on two writing prompts used to reconstruct and reinterpret our relationship to the past and present.
The workshop runs from 9.30am to 11am at Queen’s Building Perth.
Other festival events at Queen’s Building Perth, which she will take part in, are the Poetry Gala on tomorrow Thursday, August 15 from 7pm to 10pm, the Poetry Panel Discussion on Saturday, August 17 from 2pm to 4pm and the Festival Finale on Sunday, August 18 from 7-10pm.
Ms Marque’s poetry has been recognised in various competitions and appears in major literary journals including Award-Winning Australian Writing, Cordite Poetry Review, Meanjin, Overland, Southerly and Westerly.
She performed as part of The Big Read at The Queensland Poetry Festival in 2018 as the inaugural recipient of the Emerging Older Poet Mentorship Award.
Her chapbook Aporiac was published in 2016 with Finishing Line Press (USA).
Keeper of the Ritual, her first full-length collection, was shortlisted for the 2017 Noel Rowe Poetry Award.
