Three charged after Butler hit and run

Three teenagers are due in court tomorrow following their arrest after a hit and run in Butler on May 24.

JOONDALUP detectives have charged three people in relation to an incident in Butler on Friday night, May 24, which left a 27-year-old man with serious injuries.

A WA Police spokesman said police believe the victim had been walking through the car park of the shopping centre.

At the same time, two groups of people were having an altercation.

“It is believed the victim briefly interacted with the two groups, before continuing on walking,’’ he said.

“A short time later three people arrived in a car.

“It is believed they had been called to the location by a member of one of the two groups involved in the altercation.

“The car was driven around the car park and it will be alleged it was driven at the victim on purpose, striking him and causing him to hit the windscreen of the vehicle and land on the bitumen ground.’’

The spokesman said the vehicle then left the scene.

“(But) it will be further alleged the vehicle returned a short time later, and that one of the occupants threw a brick at the victim’s head, striking him to the back of the head.

“At the time the brick was thrown it is believed the victim was still on the ground, unresponsive, and was not able to defend himself.

“A 19-year-old man from Butler, a 19-year-old man from Burns Beach (alleged driver) and a 17-year-old girl from Burns Beach (alleged brick thrower) were arrested last night.

 All three were refused bail.

The two 19-year-old men are due to appear in the Joondalup Magistrates Court on Monday, May 27.

The 17-year-old girl is due to appear in the Perth Children’s Court on Monday, May 27.
