TWO Rocks residents are concerned about an anecdotal increase in crime in the area in recent months.

At a meeting held on March 28 the residents discussed starting a new community Facebook page around the theme of keeping the community safe.

They also discussed the need for an increased police presence and whether that should be through a 24/7 police station or extra patrols.

City of Wanneroo Mayor Linda Aitken and North ward councillor Sonet Coetzee both attended the meeting.

Mrs Aitken told the meeting the city could support residents’ call for more police resources but ultimately it was a state government issue.

This eventually led to talk about petitioning state Parliament for an increased police presence in the suburb.

Cr Coetzee said she would raise petitioning Parliament with Butler MLA Lorna Clarke at their next meeting.

There was a general consensus among residents that having CCTV was important as was reporting any incidents to WA Police along with getting to know your neighbours.

City of Wanneroo residents, businesses and community groups can apply for a rebate of up to 30 per cent off the cost of a new CCTV installation to a maximum of $500.

Mrs Aitken said applications for the 2024-25 CCTV rebate were still open but would close on April 15.
