THE City of Wanneroo council will go behind closed doors this evening to discuss the chief executive officer review policy.
The agenda for the city’s policy review committee meeting said the report was to be dealt with in a confidential session, under the terms of the Local Government Act 1995 Section 5.23(2), as follows: (a) a matter affecting an employee or employees, (b) the personal affairs of any person, (c) a contract entered into, or which may be entered into, by the local government and which relates to a matter to be discussed at the meeting and (d) legal advice obtained, or which may be obtained, by the local government and which relates to a matter to be discussed at the meeting.
According to the June 30 policy review committee meeting agenda the aim of the policy review committee is to review and change any existing council and local planning policies.
The committee will not review policies that require an absolute majority decision of the council or any new council policies or local planning policy proposals.
The committee can have up to 15 council members as delegates.
The City of Wanneroo delegates are the Mayor Linda Aitken, South ward councillor and deputy mayor James Rowe (presiding member), South ward councillor Eman Seif (deputy presiding member), South West ward councillor Natalie Herridge, Central ward councillor Jacqueline Huntley, Central ward councillor Jordan Wright, Central East ward councillor Paul Miles, Central East ward councillor Marizane Moore, Central West ward councillor Phil Bedworth, Central West ward councillor Helen Berry, North East ward councillor Glynis Parker, North East ward councillor Bronwyn Smith, North ward councillor Alex Figg and North ward councillor Sonet Coetzee.
The policy review committee meeting agenda said the council should appoint a suitably qualified and experienced consultant to assist with the conduct of the performance review process in an independent and equitable fashion.
“To ensure the review process is commenced in a timely manner the council will make the decision to appoint a consultant by no later than one month before the CEO’s 12-month anniversary date falls due,’’ the agenda said.
On Tuesday, July 8 the council at Mrs Aitken’s request went behind closed doors to discuss writing off a rates debt when Cr Miles said he had a question about the item.
Although Cr Miles said his question was not of a confidential nature Mrs Aitken said she preferred the council to go behind closed doors as media (Yanchep News Online) were in the chamber.
The July 8 agenda said the report was to be dealt with in confidential session, under the terms of the Local Government Act 1995 Section 5.23(2), as follows: (h) such other matters as may be prescribed (consider regulations) (a lease agreement with a tenant who doesn’t have full access to the premises and serving to a special group (seniors and pensioners) of the community.)
Due to a technical error, the July 8 meeting was not live streamed, but the city’s website says a recording of the meeting will be available soon.
