AS head trainer at the Yanchep Redhawks, chiropractor Ash Jones says her main role is to support the club’s three teams through injury prevention, recovery and rehab.

Her husband Sonny Jones started playing for the Redhawks in 2017 and after a few years of always being around the club she took on the role of head trainer in 2021.

As a chiropractor Dr Jones said she is bound by her profession’s code of conduct and therefore can also assess and provide treatment plans and recommendations to Redhawks players.

She loves being able to be a bigger part of the community and provide people support as they push themselves to achieve their physical goals.

“Getting to use my chiropractic expertise in sport is fantastic, as chiropractic is really about function optimisation,’’ she said.

“Being able to provide accurate information, rehab plans and advice has helped keep our players fit through the season.’’

She said for the club, having a registered chiropractor meant the players were getting far more from her than most other trainers, who at a minimum do a level 1 sports trainer course, which does not cover the diagnosis and management of a vast array of injuries.

“I love working with athletes in practice so it’s a pleasure to be able to use my skills and knowledge in a way that gives back to the community.’’

But it could be challenging sometimes working with men who may not be used to doing rehab exercises to promote healing and recovery.

The family – they have three children – have lived in the area for more than five years now after deciding to build their home here.

“We love the sense of community, being close to the best beaches in WA and of course the incredible Yanchep National Park.

“As a young family, we wanted to be part of a community who also had family and connection as its values, and love being Yanchep locals.”

Since June she has been based in Yanchep and said it was a real joy to be able to help young, local families like hers.
