WA Police are investigating after an alleged assault of an off-duty police officer on the Yanchep train line on Sunday, April 12.

A WA Police spokesman said about 4pm it was alleged the officer intervened in a verbal altercation between two groups of juveniles on a Perth-bound train in an attempt to de-escalate the situation.

“It is alleged a 13-year-old female assaulted the officer by punching him to the face,’’ the police spokesman said.

“The officer, who was travelling with family members at the time of the alleged incident, received minor injuries.’’

The 13-year-old female was arrested and charged with one count of common assault and issued a juvenile caution.

The police spokesman said relevant evidentiary material, including Public Transport Authority CCTV, had been obtained and was being reviewed by the WA Police as part of standard process.

“WA Police proactively identified this incident and commenced an investigation into the officer’s conduct, as is standard practice, despite no formal complaint being received from the involved parties.

“The officer remains on operational duties while an internal investigation is undertaken.”
