Arson squad charges man after house and vehicle set on fire

ARSON squad detectives have charged a man after house in Hocking was set on fire and a burning vehicle was found in Nowergup late last month.

WA Police said a 33-year-old Heathridge man was next due to appear before the Joondalup Magistrates Court on Friday, August 28.

In Police examine vehicle found in Nowergup on July 29 it was reported a vehicle believed to be a grey coloured 2017 Grand Jeep Cherokee stolen from a home in Hocking on Monday, July 27 had been found on fire on the corner of Hopkins and Hakea roads in Nowergup on July 28.

Police will allege the man was involved in a traffic crash on East Rd near Copenhagen Dr and ran from the scene.

They will also allege he set fire to a house on Welstead Way which caused an estimated $100,000 damage and fled the scene in a vehicle stolen from the home.

The man has been charged with two counts of criminal damage by fire, driver fail to stop – property damage, driver fail to report an incident in which property was damaged, no authority to drive, trespass, being armed in a way that may cause fear, common assault, home burglary and commit, stealing and steal a motor vehicle.
