
IN January 2024 Gingin homes were threatened by bushfire while in Yanchep a man was busted by Australian Border Force (ABF) and WA Police – continuing the series on most-viewed stories on Yanchep News Online in the past year.
On January 14 last year when the Gingin Bindoon bushfire was upgraded to an emergency alert for Bindoon, Lennard Brook, Mooliabeenee and Moondah in the shires of Gingin and Chittering 417ha had been burnt.
By the time a Meeting in Gingin to update residents about bushfire was announced on January 15 the bushfire had burnt 2900ha and was threatening homes in Wowra Dr and Lennards Rd.
On a positive note by that stage power had been restored to about 1000 homes and businesses.
The day before Bushfire warning areas for Yanchep, Gingin and Chittering reported firefighters were battling three bushfires in the north-eastern outskirts of the metropolitan area – the Gingin-Bindoon bushfire and the Chittering and Lower Chittering bushfire and the Bambun, Muchea, Yanchep and Yeal bushfire, which burnt about 2287ha.
There was also a bushfire advice for the Pinjar end of the Gnangara-Moore River state forest.
The most viewed story for Yanchep in January 2024 was Yanchep man remanded to appear in court again about the arrest of a 27-year-old man when Australian Border Force (ABF) and WA Police executed a search warrant at a Yanchep property.
