DLGSC says it can’t say whether the Shire of Gingin is being investigated, March 16 reported that neither the Shire of Gingin nor the Department of Local Government would clarify if the shire was being investigated due to complaints and issues raised by ratepayers and residents.
Yanchep News Online contacted DLGSC to ask if senior investigations officer had met with some of the losing candidates in the 2023 October’s local government election and whether the department had received complaints about chief executive officer Aaron Cook whose resignation was announced on March 6.
Yanchep News Online also asked if one of the complaints was about the purchase of Lot 7 Dewar Rd, Gingin for future sporting land and concern that then president Wayne Fewster had taken part in meetings and negotiations when he should have disclosed any conflicts of interest.
The shire then announced a new chief executive officer had been appointed for a term of three years but as he was not starting until October 21 Mr Cook would stay on as acting CEO until then (and later take on the acting chief executive officer role when the new CEO went on leave for an already booked holiday at the end of the year).
President Wayne Fewster resigned on October 18.
