Wind change redirects smoke from HAZMAT fire in Neerabup

A CHANGE in wind direction means smoke from a Hazmat fire in Neerabup could affect people in an area bounded by Hester Ave to the north, Wanneroo Rd to the east, Hodges Dr to the south and areas west of Mitchell Fwy.

The smoke is from a rubbish fire burning to the east of Mitchell Fwy.

Firefighters are working to contain fire.

At 9.32pm the Department of Fire and Emergency Services said the fire could continue burning for several days with smoke continuing to affect the area.

As a precautionary measure, people in the area should remain inside, out of the smoke or fumes, with doors and windows closed.

Air conditioners should also be switched off.

People should stay away from the area but if you are already in the area take advice from any emergency services personnel.
