A TRIAL of free parking at the Guilderton foreshore will be carried out for the winter months starting today July 1 and finishing on August 31.

The Shire of Gingin said the decision was made to determine whether paid parking negatively impacted the number of visitors to Guilderton.

The shire said the meters would be sign-posted ‘print and display your free parking ticket’ or ‘ratepayer parking permit’ and set to issue free tickets which need to be printed and displayed by visitors.

The free ticket system is necessary to assist the shire with quantifying and recording the number of visitors to the foreshore during this period.

Results of the free parking trial period will be reviewed and presented at a future council meeting for further consideration.
