Edith Cowan University says from Monday two new GPs will be based at a fully bulk-billed practice in Yanchep.

EDITH Cowan University says a fully bulk-billed Lagoon Medical Centre will be operational in Yanchep from September 8.

In a statement on Friday Edith Cowan University (ECU) said from Monday two new general practitioners (GPs) would be based at the fully bulk-billed practice, providing the Yanchep community with convenient access to quality medical care close to home.

The statement said ECU was partnering with the FGMC to establish the Lagoon Medical Centre Yanchep, expanding on the existing allied health services already being offered at the nearby ECU Health Centre Yanchep.

ECU school of medical and health sciences executive dean Moira Sim said the partnership with FGMC highlighted ECU’s ongoing commitment to working with healthcare providers to improve community health outcomes.

“By facilitating the establishment of the Lagoon Medical Centre, we are not only supporting the delivery of essential, local general practice services but also helping to build a healthier, more resilient community,’’ Professor Sim said.

“It’s an excellent example of how collaboration between universities and healthcare providers can create lasting benefits for the public.”

Health and Ageing, Disability and the NDIS Minister Mark Butler said the Australian government was delivering better access to health care services in Western Australia, so people could get the care they needed closer to home.

“The Lagoon Medical Centre Yanchep will give local families in this fast-growing region timely health care and peace of mind,’’ he said.

“It’s just one of the many ways the government is strengthening health care in WA, including delivering cheaper medicines, more Medicare urgent care clinics and more mental health clinics.”

FGMC GP principal Mohamed Abou El-Alamein said the Lagoon Medical Centre would embrace family values and aimed to provide the community with the best possible healthcare.

“Our doctors, nurses and admin staff are committed to providing our patients with the utmost compassion and care at every opportunity,’’ Dr El-Alamein said.

“Our objective is to deliver high quality healthcare services to our patients so they can remain healthy and happy.

“Being a bulk billing medical centre will ensure that everyone has the chance to access healthcare in an easily accessible and affordable way.’’
